1st Jr High Dance

Kordyn's school had a Back to School dance tonight. After the dance, he went to ElAcapulco to eat with a group of friends. Love how the boys sat at one end of the table and the girls at the other end! (got these from a friend of mine who put them on facebook!) I was cracking up while we were taking Layne home and they were talking about the "hot girls" they saw at the dance and dinner. It was so funny!

Hidden Talent Show

Kordyn entered our church's Hidden Talent Show last Sunday night. He can do this really odd and weird looking neck rolling thing. It is really freaky to look at! This is the best pic I could get because of the lighting in the gym.

Football Practice

Kordyn is on the 7 grade football team. He practices on MWF after school until 5:30. Games are on Tuesdays. No practice on Thursdays. His first game is this Monday because Tuesdays night is the big JHS/GCT rival scrimmage game. He is #71-if you can see in these pictures-he would die if I actually walked up close for a pic so I took these from my van!

Family Time

Landyn spent a week with Nana, Pa T, Uncle Jeff, Aunt Amy and Maggie. They went to Branson for 3 days also. We met them last Saturday in Searcy to pick him up and we ate at Chilis. Only a few more weeks until "baby boy Williams" joins our family! Can't wait to hear his name!

Kordyn's First Day of Jr. High

Kordyn started the 7th grade on Aug. 19. He loves it! His class schedule is:
1-Micro rotation, Coach Copeland,(will have a different class each 9 weeks: Health, Art History and English Enrichment)
2-Pre-Ap English, Mrs.Hodges,
3-Pre-Ap Math, Mrs. Reece,
4-Pre-Ap Science, Coach Strickler,
5-East*, Mr. Guest,
6-Pre-Ap Social Studies, Robinson,
7-Keyboarding (Mrs. Watts)/Family Consumer Sciences(Mrs. Harrell) (one each semester)
We went to his Open House the week before and we "walked" thru his day so he would know where to go, who the teachers were and to get the syllabus for each class.

*East Lab is a student-driven class, they are responsible for creating their own lesson plans. The students participate in service projects using the latest technology. They use computers, GPS/GIS mapping tools, architectural and CAD design software, 3D animation suites. They find problems in the community and use these tools to solve them. We are going to have him set up a website for Montessori! Too high tech for me!

It's sooo hot!

I am ready for fall: football, leaves, pumpkins, the colors: orange brown and gold, cool weather. 100 degree days make me cranky and irritable! Now, I feel better.

We are getting ready for school to start around here so we went shopping today. But only to get some things for Kordyn to wear for football practice, cleats and new shoes. Just couldn't do the mall, old navy, gap, target or walmart thing today. will try that next week when Landyn is at my parents for the week and there is only 1 grumpy kid with me:)

Since Jason's birthday is tomorrow, we are cooking him his favorite dinner: steak! and there are fresh green beans with new potatoes cooking on the stove, potatoes to be baked and dinner rolls. YUMMY!!!!

Jr High

Tonight we had Kordyn's Open House and 7th grade orientation at his Jr High. It was a little chaotic at first but then after walking through all 7 periods, I think we all realized it wasn't so bad. Kordyn is taking: Pre-ap English, pre-ap math, pre-ap social studies, pre-ap science, keyboarding/family-consumer science, EAST lab (a hi-tech class that blows my mind-you had to be recommended for this one) and they had him for a 9 wk rotation thing that we are changing to Art only. It was fun to walk from 1st to 7th period when the bell rang, met his teachers, got the supply lists, etc. Saw lots of familiar faces and several former students who are now in 7,8 and 9 grades!! Just feeling a little old now that KT is in Jr High:) Lots of homework is ahead; and he's playing football. But they practice after school m,w, and f. Games are on Tuesdays and Thursdays they have off. Now we will be busy this fall for sure!

Choking

Even after teaching for 14 years, I've always been so terrified that I would have one of my own children or one at school choke while eating. I am CPR certified and know what to do, but it terrifies me to ever have to use that knowledge.

Well, last night, it happened to ME. I was cooking tacos and snuck a little piece of a chip, about the size of a nickel. It went down the wrong hole and I was in pain. I coughed and tried to swallow-wasn't budging. Grabbed a bottle of water, trying to cough it up or make it go down-wasn't moving. Finally, as I was starting to panic, I coughed it up and spit it out. My throat was so sore afterwards.

But, the story gets funny here: The whole time I'm choking and trying to cough it up, Landyn is watching me very closely. When I am finally okay, he tells me that next time I need to cough, I should cough into my elbow because he doesn't want my germs:) So glad he's learned some manners at preschool, but I was just a little irritated with that reminder!! So glad everyone's had a good laugh over it.

Sunday

This morning, our children's department presented : Under God's Sea in 3D. Kordyn wasn't in it this year (thinks he's too big for the kid stuff). Landyn was a jellyfish. There was a part of the musical where the 2 divers were going out of the submarine with air tanks and got into a jellyfish storm. The 3,4 and 5 year olds had on all black and held white umbrellas and there was a black light on them. It looked sooo cool. A friend of mine is sending me a picture and I will add it then. I also had to wear all black and we walked with them so they wouldn't be scared-it was all black in the sanctuary and it was thundering.

Tonight, we had a youth parent meeting! WoW!!! We have the most awesome youth pastor and helpers. They truly have a heart for youth and guiding them to be all that God has for them. I am so excited for Kordyn to be a part of this group.

Jason is singing in our church's choir and is in a quartet-they will be singing soon. Can't wait to hear it. He continues to love his social work/day job and is very busy with that. He also has a side job: Wildlife Removal Etc. and is focusing on moles!! He has several clients now. Helps support his trapping habit:)

And what have I been up to? Enjoying my 4 day work weeks but they are now all over:( I have been busy with VBS and will be helping our director with it next year, reading Karen Kingsbury books and crying my eyes out and trying to get our house "summer cleaned"!!
