Christmas Surprise

Finally, we don't have to keep it a secret. My brother, sister in law and niece flew in for Christmas and surprised my parents. We've been planning this since July but we got stuck in traffic because of the interstate being closed in Jacksonville due to flooding. It took us 3 hours to get from Jacksonville to Bryant!!!! We missed the arrival but the boys were surprised when we finally got there. My parents were so shocked when they opened their door and there was a baby in a box! My dad thought someone had abanded a baby at their house. Then, he looked over and saw Jeff and Amy. They were sooo surprised. We've had a wonderful visit and will be going to ElDorado later this week to visit my family there. Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas.

Christmas Day

We enjoyed our day of being lazy, playing the wii, and reading new books. Santa was good to us this year!!

Christmas Eve

We celebrate Christmas with the Turner side on Christmas Eve. Feasted on steak and shrimp, baked pototoes, salad. YUMMY!

Last minute shopping

ok, so somebody remind me next year about how bad it is when I wait until the last minute to shop for Christmas!!! Landyn and I went out this am to finish up a few last minute things: pick up more cards because I ran out, stocking stuffers, dinner stuff, 2 more gifts, etc. People are just so rude!! I think next year, I'm giving gift cards. No more fighting the crowds and rudeness. Now, I feel much better! Except for this horrible headache I got when I hit my head last night at our Christmas party. Will post pics and the story later when I can see better-think I may have actually given myself a slight concussion!

Crazy Day

wow!!! I shooped today from 11 am to 5 pm and I just have one thing to say-WOW!!! Jonesboro was nuts today. Guess that's what I get for waiting until the Sat before Christmas, huh? Anyway, I marked everything off my list and only have 2 gifts left. YEAH!!! Now, where are the wrapping elves?

Crashed Computer

Got to love it when your computer crashes just before Christmas!! Good thing we have jason's little laptop we can use! Anyway, we've survived the Christmas parties at school, and the endless list of "things we have to do this week! When will life slow down?
Finally picked up Christmas cards today-got tired of Walgreens calling me to tell me they were ready. Went with the middle picture of the boys laughing-it just fits them!
Jason and I went on a date this evening: dinner at Lazzaris and then a Wal-mart shopping trip. Must be a sign of old age. Wanted to got to Target but really didn't want to fight the crowds @ the mall.

Christmas Card Photos

Well, I'm trying to decide which photo to use for our Christmas cards. I like to do things last minute!!

Children's Christmas Musical

Today, our children's ministry presented The Mystery of the Manger:It's the Gospel Truth. Kordyn was a 007 guy. The 2,3 and 4 year olds sang Away in a Manger. Well, Charley Claire sang, Landyn sang softly the first verse, Max, Kelsea & Craig listened and loved having a microphone to play with. It was so fun to watch them both. Kordyn really got into it with moving his head as he said "whoooo". Jason asked him yesterday if he knew his lines and Kordyn said oh, yeah. Today we figured out why he had no problem learning them, he only had to say "whoooo" about 5 times!!

Happy Birthday, Landyn

Landyn is 4 today!! I can't believe that he's already 4 years old! We had a great time celebrating his birthday last Friday with family and then tonight, we got to pick the restaurant for dinner-Mazzios. I figured it would be Fat City since that's his fav but he went with pizza. An interesting choice considering that he didn't even eat any pizza tonight: salad with red dressing, ham squares and croutons then oreo dessert pizza.
Photo 1: Landyn and his "wife" Sophie Puckett-she calls him her husband! Her dad and Jason work together but the kids didn't know each other until Montessori.
Photo 2: Landyn with his friends: Houston, Wyatt and Luke. Ethan had already left for the day.
Photo3: Mrs. Herman helping Landyn with the music box. When it's your birthday, you get to open the special box and turn the music box for it to play "Happy Birthday". Then, all of the kids take turns telling the birthday child something special like: happy birthday, you can come play at my house, etc.

New Cousin

This is my cousin Tyler and his wife Andrea's baby, Amelia Grace. She is adorable! i could have sat and held her all night. Tyler was my "baby" until he figured out I was a GIRL and then he ditched me to play with the boys! (I was the only granddaughter on my dad's side and I was 10 when Tyler was born so he was my real-life baby doll). I am so happy for them as they start their family.

Thanksgiving Day 2009

Thanksgiving Dinner at Jason's brothers house in Pocahontas

no pictures

I would post some awesome pictures but I can't seem to find the camera cord so it's kind of hard to do that! Sorry! But we did have a great weekend with all of our families. And, yesterday, was a wonderful relaxing day of doing laundry and cooking to get us ready for the rest of the week.

Hanging out

Today, Landyn and I are just hanging out at home. We've baked 8 dozen cookies, cleaned up the house, 2 loads of laundry, played with trains, tractors and watched Beethoven. A most productive day.
This afternoon, we are going to Mrs. Way's (owns Montessori) for a play date with her granddaughter, Bailey, running out to our mini storage building to put away our fall stuff and get the Christmas stuff out, picking Kordyn up (he spent the night with Mamie and Peet last night and is going to a movie today), meeting Jason for dinner and then the dreaded: Kroger! Just need some things for our trip to ElDorado tomorrow; you know, goldfish crackers, cokes, waters, peanuts, etc.
We are going to Pocahontas in the morning for Thanksgiving with Jason's brother and his family then driving to ElDorado to visit and for the guys to hunt. We are returning Saturday so we can rest and wash laundry before Monday.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Friday Nite, part 2

Okay, so the movie was sold out unless we wanted to wait until 10:05 but we are old people so we just went to the mall to eat and walk around. Great night for just visiting! We did get tickled at Bath and Body Works when smelling the soap. I enhaled a little too much and almost got a nose full. Bought some wonderful smelling Christmas soap! Ready to decorate now! Better head to bed-early morning!

Friday Night

On my way to a movie with my friend Amy. We are going to see Blindside with Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw. Heard it was wonderful! AND, we are having popcorn for dinner! Yummy!
Jason and Kordyn are going out to eat and rent a movie, Landyn is at Mamie and Peet's house with Emma for a sleepover. In the morning, I'm going to our church's gym sale with my fellow teachers. At 7 am. On a Saturday morning. When I could be sleeping in. Am I nuts? (Don't answer that!)

It hit home

Today, our pastor's sermon was on being thankful in good times and bad. He used a story about a flower shop that has a unique "special" during Thanksgiving time: long stemmed roses with no flower petals, only thorns. The whole point was to thank God for the "petals" and the "thorns" in life, for that is when you draw closer to God, to rely on him through difficult situations, etc. But, we should do that daily not just when we are going through hard times.
Wow! That really hit me. How guilty I am of only relying on Him when times are tough.
Just something for you to think about this during this upcoming season.
Have a great week!

Saturday Stuff

We had a very productive day!
First, we went out to breakfast @ Couchs (wonderful but too much food)
Then, we got Jason and Landyn's haircuts (Kordyn spent last night with a friend)
Got the propane tank filled, met Jason's parents at O'Charleys and watched them eat (we were still sooo full), Wal-Mart (next time we decide to go there on a Saturday, somebody please admit me!), picked Kordyn up, went to grocery store (only buy meat at Kroger, Hays or W & O which is now Harps), Subway because we were now hungry for lupper (lunch and supper) and then headed home for Jason to work on his traps since the season opens next Saturday.

Then, I started on Landyn's room and closet. I sent him outside to "work" with Jason and I managed to fill 4 garbage bags and a ride on toy and put them in my van before he knew what I was doing!! YEAH!! Now his room is so organized and clean. I did Kordyn's a few weeks ago so now, it's just mine and Jasons left and then, my entire house has been cleaned out and re-organized. Now, I just have 5 loads of laundry to do. Fun fun!

I HATE Day Light Savings Time

Why do we have to change the time twice a year? See this "angel", he got up at 6am!!! this morning. Guess who got to get up with him?? I feel a nap coming on.

Halloween 09

Since our church had to cancel our Fall Festival due to sickness, we went to another local church and let the kids trick and treat. Our tradition is to eat dinner at Mamie and Peet's house and then trick and treat in their neighborhood. We've always eaten chili and hot dogs but this year we had soft tacos and cheese dip. Yummy!! Here are pictures of the boys in their costumes: Kordyn was a War Nerd (that's what he and his friends call him since he LOVES war history) Landyn was a construction worker (he's all about tools). And here are pictures of the loot!

Happy Halloween!

Well, we are on our way to the doctor. Landyn has spots on his throat and complaining his mouth hurts. Hummmm.....wonder what that means?? Probably strep throat. Hasn't run any fever. I just thought he was cranky because he had a flu shot on Thurs and sometimes that makes you feel icky for a day or two. We'll see. Hate for him to be sick and miss tonight!

UPDATED: no strep, just a viral infection; he's fine unless he is running a fever. Yeah!!

Missing

See those cute, round metal things with glass in them to help you see better, well, they are missing! Landyn put them somewhere and "He has no idea where they are!". Guess we are lucky because this is the first time he's lost them and he's had them for 1 1/2 years. Guess a new pair are in the near future. There goes $250.00!

UPDATED: found them after looking for over 12 hours! In Jason's underwear drawer. Why? We have no idea; he has no idea-gotta love 3 yr olds!

Weekend

We've had a great weekend so far; except that I'm sick, had to go to the dr and am awake at 3:45 in the morning!
My dad came to visit us-and to shoot bows with the guys. Wish I had gotten pictures of all of them shooting but I laid back down because I'm sick. My mom is in Macedonia loving on my niece! Wish I was living on her too! She's growing up and I haven't even gotten to see her yet. Will have to wait until next July when they come home to visit.
Hate being sick!! I have a sinus infection and bronchitis. Fun fun fun!!! Can't sleep because cough med wore off-took more-hoping it kicks back in.

Here is Pa T with the boys!

stuff

We had Kordyn's conference with his teachers today. He's got A's, they love him, thinks he's a genius, one of a kind and love his reading and writing. It was so fun to sit in that meeting!!!! He is such a fun kid! This is his best friend, Layne. They are so funny when together.

Working Man

Landyn picked out his own clothes today and proceeded to announce that he was a working man who is a fireman who rides bikes. Wow! Love the backwards bike helmet! (That's his fireman hat!)

It's addictive

Well, it's happened, Jason bought a new bow. He loves archery but when he started grad school, he sold his bow so he wouldn't be tempted and he could study, etc. Now, he addicted again! He reads books on it, goes on bow forums, watches dvds, works on finding the perfect arrow (he says he's finally found the one!)

But, the best part? the boys are also enjoying shooting their bows with him!

Saturday Stuff

What a wonderful day: gloomy outside, cool outside-it's FALL!!!! I love it. Would love it more if I hadn't have woken up at 2 am with a stomach bug! But I guess I needed this extra rest I've gotten today. Funny thing is-we haven't had a stomach thing going around, just flu. And, when I say flu, I mean: 3 in my class of 10, at least 4 other 4 yr olds, about 13 or 14 (I lost count) in Landyn's class.I'm praying he doesn't get it but if he doesn't, I will be really surprised, they've sent 1 or 2 home daily this past week.

Sunday, a Day of Rest

Even though we've had tooooo much rain-I was so excited to see it this am. Love taking a Sunday nap with it raining outside!

We had a great worship service this am, followed by communion, lunch at a friend's house, and now home for a nap! What a great day! By the way, this is what I found a few weeks ago when it was time to wake everyone up to go back to church:

Those are batteries that Landyn is holding-you never know when you'll need an extra set!

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Saturday Stuff

I LOVE Saturdays!! Landyn slept in until 8! After breakfast, I cleaned up the house, gathered laundry, made Kordyn a list of chores, made Landyn put on clothes since he was going outside, cooked lunch, and now, I'm off to Hobby Lobby. Need ribbon to finish off my fall decorations! Then, it's time to cook: McAlister's Deli Chicken Tortilla Soup! (recipe will be on my recipe blog later) And, lastly, 6:30 it's Hog Time!!!! We've got to beat the Aggies! (Sorry, Amy)

Great report

Landyn got a great report from the dr yesterday. He is a candidate for the catheter procedure and we will wait for him to get bigger and about age 7 or 8 before the surgery. Landyn was not very thrilled for them to be touching him but they did not have to sedate him so we were happy. And, he got to go pick out a toy for letting them do the echo.
After we finished the test, we ate lunch at Juanita's-one of our favorite places! We were glad to get home last night!

Dr. Visit

We are in Little Rock today for Landyn's annual cardio checkup. Today, they are supposed to do an EKG and Echo to see if the hole in his heart has closed or if there are any changes. Our prayer is that if there is no change they will be able to do the catheter procedure. We should know something later today. Then, we'll schedule the surgery for sometime between ages 4 and 5 (He'll be 4 in December).

Hoping I can sweet talk my husband to letting me visit Michaels on our way home today!!! Need some more fall stuff!!!Fingers crossed!!

Sunday

Never fails, when you have big plans for a day, that a kid gets sick. Landyn has a stuffy nose today so I kept him home from church-just in case. He has no fever, just a stuffed nose. We are surprising him tonight and taking him to see Disney Playhouse at the Convocation Center; so we want him to rest and get a good nap. He will be so excited to see Handy Manny-he loves anything with tools (and guitars, trucks, cars, etc)This picture tells all!

Also, he has his yearly cardio appointment Thursday at AR Children's Hospital in Little Rock. Really need to not be sick for this appt. They will be doing an EKG and Echo to check for progress on the hole in his heart closing on it's own. So far, there hasn't been any changes. But we believe in miracles, you know! Dr. Best has said since he was 12 mo old that he believes he will be a candidate for the catheter procedure and not have to have open heart surgery. We're praying this is still the route he will take if surgery is indeed needed.

Will post Disney pics tomorrow!

Friday Favorites & a picture

I took this pic when we were in ElDorado for my grandmothers funeral. It was raining that morning and the boys were so disappointed they couldn't swim that morning. We stood outside on the patio area a watched it rain while we ate breakfast. I love how they are both standing the same way! Not even posed!

1. Friday-just the name of the day of the week brings joy to my heart
2. Husbands-especially ones who bring home dinner when their wives are still recovering from BAD kidney infections!
3. Pajamas-do I need to elaborate?
4. Air Conditioner-so glad ours is finally fixed. Not fun to not have air when you are running a fever and not feeling very well.

That's all for now. Hope to rest all weekend and get to feeling better (with no back pain)

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Recently heard at my house

Landyn-hey, don't turn off the shower!
Jason-we have to get the poop out first before we can shower

I'm just pretending I didn't hear any of that conversation!

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Our new theme song

"God told Noah to build him an arky, arky"
I think this song pretty much sums up the weather here in Jonesboro! I should teach my kids this song today. And, there is more rain on the way. Yipee!!

Gotta find something positive today or I will go crazy

A dinner out with friends

We had so much fun last night. We went to chili's with some friends. Their son is in my class; she is our pharmacist; Jason and Shawn have never met, but the instantly hit it off! They both hunt and stuff. They've even planned a big hunt/trapping trip this winter. Landyn and Ethan had fun playing with little cars he brought for them to play with. (Kordyn didn't want to go so he got to have a special evening alone with Mamie and Pete) Amy and I just enjoyed talking and having more than 5 minutes to do that in! But, then it was almost 11 before 2 boys got in the bed! And, after the 3 glasses of tea that I drank, I was up until 1 am. I feel a nap coming after church today.

It's raining, It's pouring

I can't think of another week quite like the past one. It's rained some EVERY day!!Does the sun still even exist?

No one else got sick last week after Jason so hopefully we are good for awhile. This is a busy week coming up. The fair and Jason has the Truman duck something next Saturday. Tonight,we are meeting friends at Chili's for dinner. They are really a great funny couple and their son is in my class. The men have never met but I think they will get along well-both big outdoorsmen! Hope to laugh alot!!

Thursday, September 10, 2009

sickness all around

Well, first our desktop computer is wigging out, then, we lost our laptop-it died last night. Then, Jason got up with stomach bug; no swine flu thank goodness!! Now, wonder who's next? Landyn had it last weekend in Branson with my parents so he should be safe. Kordyn's had a head cold but he is better. Guess that just leaves me. Not gonna say I won't get it and that I have a immunity to it because then I will wake up with it tomorrow!
Hopefully, this is it for the Turner family!
btw, I think I how to fix the computer-reset tthe modem and Jason's new mini notebook computer is working great so I'll plug in the desktop tomorrow and see how that works.

Monday, September 7, 2009

lazy day

love a "stay home day" (as Landyn calls it). meat on the smoker, house semi-clean, laundry going, boys outside playing, Jason working in his shop, I'm blogging and then going to finish a book. Wonderful day. Just wish this day would last forever!

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Quiet Weekend

It's been so quiet around here this weekend. My parents took the boys to Branson with them. However, I got a text Saturday morning about 8:30 that said no more grandkid trips. Landyn woke up at 5 am throwing up and continued several more times throughout the day. Kordyn woke up with a really bad stuffed up nose and sore throat. I felt guilty enjoying my quiet house! Today, both are better and headed back home this evening. It may be a while before my parents take them off on another trip again.

Friday, August 28, 2009

It's here

Finally, it's Friday! No more school for the week. So glad this week is finally over. Praying for a much better one next week.

Kordyn is loving 6th grade-he has even decided that he likes math! His teacher is estatic because the first day he told her that he hates math; nothing personal, but he just hated math. She was determined to change him by the end of the year-it only took 1 day because they started algebra and he loves it. She was so excited that he changed in only 1 day. He's also excited that this year, he will study Europe. At International Studies Magnet, every grade focuses on a different continent. 1-Australia,2-South America, 3-Asia, 4-Africa, 5-North America, 6-Europe, all the support staff is Antartica (library, principal, etc) He loves war and they are learning about Greece right now.

Landyn is learning about Community Helpers this month at Montessori. A few weeks ago, they had a very important visitor-Smoky, the Bear! He loved watching him from, afar, but wouldn't go near him. Today, they had a "sewer lady" named Ms. Mary. He said they passed around stuff to touch and listened to her talk. He had loved the fireman and policeman days the best I think.

Tonight, we are going out to eat because Jason thinks you should eat out every Friday night! Upper Crust pizza, here we come! Then, I feel the couch calling my name for some relaxing-laundry is caught up for today & house is pretty clean so I think I deserve a night off!

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Bad Day

Today has been a day that I hope to never repeat. Can't do into any details but if you think of me over the next few days, I would appreciate your prayers. I am hopeful that todays events will help this situation go away so that we can have a great school year but I am doubtful-only God knows and I am going to trust completely on him because I can't worry or stress about it anymore. Thanks for letting me vent.

Weekend Recap

Saturday- I cleaned house. gathered laundry, cooked breakfast and then looked at the clock to see that it was only 8:06. Just what time did I get up? I have no idea-thought the clock said 8,but I didn't have on my glasses to who knows?
We smoked a pork loin, I got a haircut and then we cooked a big dinner. Great day with beautiful 79 degree weather-Love it!

Sunday-started off running really late because Landyn did not sleep very well. Kordyn had to be at church at 9 to practice and I had to cook food for church this am!

Today was our Children and Youth Building Dedication Sunday. It was a very full day! The children sang and led the music. The youth did a wonderful drama presentation using a dark room, glowing sticks and masks and a black light to the song "Arise"-I will always think of this when I hear that song-it was wonderful, chill-bumping and brings tears to your eyes when you "SEE" what we did to Jesus. Then we had several presentations to the building chairperson, district supervisor spoke, etc. It was also Pastor Ken and Ms. Linda Stallings 22nd Sunday at Forest so it was a wonderful day. We had a quest speaker, Susie Shellenberger. She was awesome and really connected to the children and youth! She used to be with Focus on the Family. After a 2 1/2 hour service, we had a potluck and 6 ft. cake in honor of the new building.

Then at 2, we had a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony at the new building and then we got to go in a see it. Landyn was excited to see that he would be in the "tadpole" room. He gets to be in the pre-k room now. Kordyn is in the "eagle" room. The children worship area is decorated in a wilderness/fort theme-very cool with concrete boulders and walls, a river and bridge. We got to tour the youth area-awesome is all I can say and that we are not ready for that next year! It is decorated in a production/warehouse theme. The junior and senior high rooms are in a sport/school theme with astroturf floors and bleachers. Kordyn can't wait until next year! The kids loved dancing on their stage-but today is the last time they will be allowed in there!

We finally made it home about 4 this afternoon-Naptime!

School news

Well, we survived the first day of school. Kordyn loves 6th grade, Landyn was excited to be in his class (he's gone all summer, btw) and I have an awesome class this year-just 10! We have a parent meeting tonight so I hope I don't scare them about what's ahead this year. Will post first day pictures later.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Tomorrow's the day

that I have a 6th grader! How did he get so old without my realizing it? I remember the 6th grade-I shouldn't have a child that old! He, on the other hand, is very excited and can't wait for it.

BTW, I returned 3 of the 4 movies today-no late fees for me! (will return the other one tomorrow!)

It's 9:10 and it's time for bed.

Monday, August 17, 2009

Good Morning, Monday

I can't believe that it is Monday and schools starts in just 2 days. We stayed out way toooo late last night at a friends house, eating pizza and laughing way tooo hard. But, today, is going to be a great day:

1. Our new refrigerator is being delivered! Yeah!!! I just hope they call before coming to our house because we never got our call last night about the time.

2. Kordyn's open house. He is in Mrs. Walls class but his bf Layne is not. They've been together since 3rd grade-guess they finally wisened up!

Gotta get kids up and moving! Have a great day!

Friday, August 14, 2009

Friday, what a day should be

LAZY!!! I admit it, I was a little lazy today. However, I did get my house cleaned and ready for my new refrigerator to be delivered on Monday! Yeah!!! Here is a picture of what it will look like:

After all of the cleaning, we took Jason to Dillards for new shoes (I've tried for 13years to get him to buy a pair of sandals but he wouldn't even try them) and since they were 50% off, he bought 2 pairs. Then, on to dinner at Casa Maya. Next, a trip to Lowe's and then, finally, a trip to Hollywood Video to rent movies-very expensive trip btw: we owed $30 in late fees! I forgot that we had "lost" 2 movies back in June. Guess we should have just bought them! Never spent $50.00 to rent 4 movies before, but we learned a BIG lesson and will never, ever have late fees again!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Is it Friday yet?

I'm ready for the weekend! Can it only be Tuesday? This has already been a crazy week and now we add:
A kid with swine flu. We had a scare back in May but that child had not been at school for about 4 days before getting sick. This one was there yesterday and diagnosed with the flu today-they are considering it swine flu since it is the same symptoms as what they are seeing with the flu. Tomorrow will be a crazy day when parents find out! So, now we will begin our "fall-cold-flu behaviors": wash hands, extra germ-x, kleenex and being extra careful with stuff that kids produce!

Friday Favorites

1. Cleaning- I love to clean out and organize! Jason will probably laugh until he cries when he reads this. We had inservice today at Montessori and we organized and cleaned all day (8 to 4) and this always makes me come home and dig into closets, drawers and cabinets. Today, we bought Kordyn new mattresses for his bed so we cleaned out under the bed, his closet and all of his bookshelves and got rid of TONS of junk. YEAH!!!

2. Knock-out Roses-I love these. I was given a bush in honor of my grandmother's passing away and I can't wait to plant them. They are also pink which was her favorite color. I want to add to this one and plant several in my yard. They are easy to keep.

3. Excedrin migraine-the older I get, the more often I get migraines now. At least 3 or 4 a year. Used to have them alot in college, then only 1 or 2 for about 8 years and now that I've turned 35-I've had several. My doctor thinks they are caused by hormonal changes since I'm getting older-made me feel wonderful to hear this. Tell me something I don't already know!

We also bought a new refrigerator this week! I've always wanted a side-by-side with the crused ice and water on the door. We decided to go with a smooth black finish so that fingerprints won't show as much. Can't wait for it to come in and be delivered on Aug. 17th! It even has a door alarm and child-lock on it! We won't have to worry about Landyn turning it off or flooding our floor. A mom must have invented these features.

"Livin' Inside Out in an Upside Down World"

To conclude the VBS week, our church has a musical finale.

Kordyn was cast as Zach, the athlete whose heart was changed during the play. He had about 30 lines to memorize and did a wonderful job! He has confident, full of drama (he is reguarly dramatic so that was easy for him!) and recited his lines with energy. We were so proud of him!
